My Co-op Experience.
Honeywell Intelligrated
History
Chris Cole and Jim McCarthy founded Intelligrated in 2001, bringing more than 60 years of combined experience in the automated material handling industry. In August 2016, Honeywell completed its acquisition of Intelligrated in a transaction valued at $1.5 billion, with the company joining Honeywell’s Safety and Productivity Solutions business group.
Mission
Honeywell Intelligrated is committed to helping retailers, manufacturers and logistics providers build smarter distribution and fulfillment operations. By employing the ideal mix of automation, software and labor, our reliable, high-performance solutions optimize productivity and deliver fast, accurate fulfillment to match the speed of modern commerce.
My Contribution
At Honeywell Intelligrated I work in the Concepting and Estimating group where it is our job to provide our customers with a fast and appropriately costed solution. As a part of the team it was my responsibility to produce cost estimates for assigned projects, including the cost of electrical devices, third-party control devices, electrical layout drawings for use by other estimating teams (installation), and estimates of electrical engineering and software engineering for the implementation of the proposed project. Projects of high complexity are engineered and estimated. Alternative concepts are developed and proposed, to enhance Honeywell Intelligrated's value to the customer.
My Impact
In 2019 my work contributed to a total of over $500,000,000 in projects purchased by our customers.
Internally, I helped test a new software solution that allows our team to execute their duties quicker, and with more accuracy.
What have I learned?
With such a broad list of responsibilities, I have learned many technical and non-technical (professional) skills during my time at Intelligrated. On the technical side of things I have learned about how automated machine controls and material handling works on a very detailed level. From power distribution and network communication to PLC controls and signal processing, machine controls requires technical understanding of all these disciplines. Machine Controls is important because I get to tie all these fundamentals into a highly functional system.
On the non-technical side of my work, I have learned a lot about professionalism through all the internal and customer meetings, job site visits, and training that I have experienced at Intelligrated. This is important to me because it is just as valuable as the technical skills. Professionalism allows me to communicate intelligently and appropriately about my work and lets me become a better team member.
